The #CHILD Project

” We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give “

Winston Churchill

Caring about something is often the first step in bringing about change. Even if limited by our resources, we can still show that WE CARE! #Changing through Caring is one of the core objectives of APV Law Watch and together with you all, we can change things for the better so,  let’s get started!

For our first “Changing through Caring” campaign, we are happy to introduce the CHILD, a non-profit organisation operating in the area of Chennai in India. The CHILD is a project that started in 2005 and is registered as a charitable trust under Indian law with Registration number 658/2005 and under the Juvenile Justice Act 2015 with registration number 732/DSD/2017. The organisation runs three different programs dedicated to children about which you can find more information below, on their website  www.childin.org or you can always refer to this brochure.

The CHILD’s Care Home for Children

This program’s primary goal is to support abandoned or destitute children or children coming from poor families with HIV/AIDS positive parents. The key goal is to provide an upbringing for these children and ensure they will integrate seamlessly into the mainstream society and will become exceptional global citizens with great values and life skills. This project provides a “home-like” environment with complete emotional and psychological support besides nurturing the talents within each child. Currently, the CHILD Home caters for 22 children who are being supported by financial aid for their education and in meeting their basic amenities like food, clothing and medical care. The Charity offers the opportunity for anyone to become engaged in this project by making donations or volunteering to participate in the education of these children. As an example, with a donation of roughly $40 (Rs 2500), you could sponsor a child for a whole month including his meals and education.

I Support A Girl – ISAG program

The other needful and successful program of CHILD is ISAG, a  program initiated in the year 2015.  The target of ISAG project consists of girl children from families with parents living with HIV/AIDS, commercial sex workers, broken families and destitute children.  Over 2000 children are affected and inffected by HIV/AIDS in the areas of Chennai and Tiruvallur where the ISAG program is currently implemented. The living conditions of these children are way below acceptable standards and their educational and basic needs are rarely met.  The ISAG project was initiated in an attempt to improve the standard of living for these girls by empowering with the help of education, the training in different life skills and through providing financial aid for their basic needs. So far 75 girl children are being supported by means of this program. You can help sponsoring a girl’s education in a government school for a full year with only 100$.

CLAPS – Computer Literacy And Professional Skills

This project has been initiated mainly to offer computer literacy in software to children who are studying in Government schools and Government aided schools in order to raise the awareness to children from underprivileged section of the society as a whole about computer literacy and its importance.  Teaching computer skills to children in government schools and government aided schools will motivate them to reach a higher level and will prepare them for an increasingly competitive work environment. A pilot study of the CLAPS program has been initiated in SKDT school at Villivakkam starting with 2016 October . So far 243 underprivileged children from class 6th to 11th are benefiting from this program and the CHILD is planning to start implementing this program in more schools with children from underprivileged backgrounds and they are going to need our support to continue doing these amazing things.
